(Code 43)  A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

HP Pavilion 13-r010dx x2 Detachable PC

Windows 8.1

This is a new laptop,   Purchased the first week of September 2014

Please help fix this issue.  This started happening with a Seagate external drive and the USB cord for my apple devices (iPhone, iPad ect...)  It happens with both of the USB ports.   I have tried all the suggestions to include

  • updating the drivers
  • turning on an off the mobile apple device adapters
  • re installing the mobile apple device adapters
  • turning off and turning on the USB ports
  • disabling the power saving for the USB
  • updating and then re-installing the Intel chipset drivers
  • double checked the power cord
  • tried different USB adapter cords
  • rebooting my laptop (after every change/fix)

I tried everything HP suggested

I have tried everything this website has suggested

I have tried multiple forums' suggestions

My Seagate drive which has all of my business files is now unreadable by my desktop with Win 7.   I had to purchase Seagate file recovery software to recover my files.   This new laptop is not usable without USB drives    I purchased this laptop in September and feel like it is my worst computer purchase EVER   much too much work just to get this laptop to function.   my frustration with this laptop and windows interface makes me want to ditch all Windows operating devices for Apple devices

Unfortunately, if the device was purchased recently and you did not reinstall windows/drivers before the first occurance, I think the hardware is simply broken. After all all OEM's have pretty though testing for the OS/drivers and software they install, and DOA (dead on arrival) still occurs.

the fact there are multiple external devices that do not work on this computer but do on other computers, supports this thesis.

Indeed it is not impossible for a broken usb port/hub in your laptop to mess around enough with an external drive to corrupt it. (backups, backups, backups!)

I would recommend to get support from HP asap. The sooner the better as your device should be covered by war

Thank you   HP has not been helpful.   They insist it is a microsoft  driver issue..   of which my laptop says it has the most current driver,  and I still have this problem  months later.  so I am NOT happy

They insist it is a microsoft  driver issue..

My guess would be a Windows issue.  I had a related problem (after an update of course) in which my USB hub was unrecognized, thus making unaccessible all devices which were attached to it, including my wireless mouse and keyboard receiver.  Fortunately I still had Touch but was also able to get the receiver working by moving it to the one USB port in the Surface.  My solution was to remove all USB hubs and controllers and then reboot with no devices attached, attaching them only once the OS was fully up and ready to start recognizing "new" hardware being added.

As usual, troubleshooters were unhelpful in either diagnosing or fixing this for me (on either Surface RT or Surface Pro) but it was over a year ago so perhaps they would be worth trying again now first.

I found that using an external 2.0 USB hub can help.  Connect the external USB hub to one of the USB port of your pc and connect your device to the external USB hub.  Hope this helps.

SIMPLY PERFECT HP 15 8.1

Can you be more specific about your model number.  HP thinks this describes a wide range of products it seems.

Is there a USB nano receiver installed somewhere for that?  Where?  Try moving it?
